Monkees
In 2006 I traveled to Japan for a few months. Although I was an adult, I often found myself viewing reality through the eyes of a child. Perhaps because I didn't understand the language or because the customs were so different from what I was used to. All of this made me reflect on childhood and how children view adulthood: the longing to grow up, the fear of that change, the intrigue and curiosity about the world.
Unpublished text by actor and theater director Joan Ollé creates a set design for each "Monkee". The book holds nine monkees made from woodcuts with pachoir backgrounds. It is simultaneously a look at childhood from an adult perspective, and a look at what it means to be an adult for children.
