During the late 70s, there was an uncontrolled mining extraction in La Garrotxa volcanic area. A group of people decided to come together and try to stop it. This real David versus Goliath story is explained in the book by Mallarach, one of the leaders of this movement. They not only won the fight and forced an end to the excavation of the volcanoes, but also became the framework for the creation of the first national park protection law in Spain.
Later Mallarach became the first director of the first Natural Park created in Olot after a long fight with the government. In the text he explains the process of trying to stop the extraction that was happening in the heart of the Volcanoes Park. 
The second part of the book discusses about how we, as human beings, are exhausting the Earth’s natural resources and destroying what we should have preserved. He also attempts to offer possibilities, solutions and ideas regarding what we should be doing.
