The City in the Sea
The first time people read the poem “City in the Sea,” was in 1831, in Edgar Allan  Poe’s book, Poems. It was published under the title “The Doomed City”.
Five years later, in 1836, another version was published in the literary magazine, Southern Literary Messenger. Its title was “The City of Sin.” It wasn’t until the year 1845 that the poem was published as “The City in the Sea”. First, in April in the American Review and later, in August, in Broadway.  In 1850, a year after the death of Edgar Allan Poe, the editor Rufus Wilmot Griswold published “The City in the Sea” in the tenth edition of The Poets and Poetry of America, referring to it as one of the author’s best poems.
